Receiving Grants in Spain for the Installation of Renewable Energy Solutions
There are a number of grants available for consumers that wish to replace an existing fossil fuel energy solution within their home. The grant process is fairly complicated, but we at Pretasol will guide you through the process and we are in a position to to advise you on the level of grant that you are able to receive.
For the installation of a solar thermal solution on your property that will produce energy for your hot water consumption, grants of up to 46% are available, however this depend on a number of criteria. Pretasol are full RITE accredited and are able to apply for the grants on your behalf.

Solar Thermal systems qualify for grants under the following circumstances:
- If you are replacing a fossil fuel based water heating system
- If you are building a new build, or reform and the planning was applied for before September of 2006.
Feed-in Tariffs for Solar Photovoltaic
A Feed-in Tariff is an incentive structure to encourage the adoption of renewable energy through government legislation. The regional or national electricity utilities are obligated to buy renewable electricity (electricity generated from renewable sources, such as solar thermal power, wind power, biomass, hydropower and geothermal power) at above-market rates set by the government.
Current Spanish feed-in legislation is Royal decree 1578/2008 (Real Decreto 1578/2008), for photovoltaic installations, and Royal decree 661/2007 for other renewable technologies injecting electricity to the public grid. Originally under the 661/2007, photovoltaic feed-in tariffs have been recently (Sept 2008) developed under a separate specific law frame due to the rapid growth experienced by this technology since release of the original scheme.
The current Photovoltaic decree 1578/2008 categorizes installations in two main groups with differentiated tariffs:
- Rooftop and building integrated installations; with 34c€/kWh in systems up to 20kW of nominal power, and tariff of 31c€/kWh for systems above 20kW up to a maximum of 2MW.
- Ground based and non-integrated installations; 32c€/kWh for systems up to 10MW of nominal power.
