Underfloor heating is a home heating solution that is well suited to the solar energy systems. It works by making a hot fluid circulate through reinforced pipes. The main advantage of this system compared with traditional ones is the temperature we need to burn the fuel to get the area warmed.
The floor structure is gently warmed producing a large radiant plane typically at 23 – 26 degrees C. The energy emitted is absorbed by people and objects without directly heating the air, resulting in a near perfect temperature profile between floor and ceiling.
With the underfloor heating system we send water to the pipes at 35-40ºC, to get a 20-22ºC room temperature, while with the traditional systems we need to burn fuel at more than 800ºC to heat the water at 70-80ºC and get a 20ºC room temperature.
The Characteristics of Underfloor Heating
The main caracteristic of this system is the auto-regulation. The variables that dictate the amount of transferred heat are:
- Under floor heating circuit propulsion temperature 42ºC
- Under floor heating circuit return temperature 34ºC. Floor temperature 26ºC
- Room temperature 21ºC. Thermic gap 5ºC. Emited ratiation 60 W/m2
Where Does the Heat Come From?
Underfloor heating could be by any kind of traditional fuel: gas, oil, electricity, or ideally a heat pump.
All of them can receive a fantastic boost from solar energy !
Advantages
- Less Heat Loss: If the air is not directly heated and is at a lower temperature, then less heat is lost through the building fabric.
- Freshness: No direct heating of the air means that the humidity level is not degraded; buildings with floor warming systems feel much fresher.
- Floor Level Heating: High ceilings are of little consequence to floor warming systems as the comfort zone only needs to be where the occupants are, at floor level.
- Healthy: An atmosphere freeof fuel dust ensure you a clean and confortable heat.
- Aesthetics: No radiators, hot air units, gas bottle burners, or similar are needed anymore.
- Cheap maintenance: The pipes are almost unbreakable and anti corrosion.
- Safe: All the circuits start and end in receiver located over the floor. There is no splices and the quality of the pipes avoid breakdowns.
Our Combi system can heat your house hot water and your under floor/radiators using the same panels… and your pool in summer if you have one.
